¿Eres Realmente Libre?
En este tiempo, los adicciones son mas prevalentes que nunca. Hay más drogas por ahí (prescripción e ilegales), que nunca antes. Sin embargo, los medicamentos no son las única cosas que las personas se vuelven adictas. Y, tal vez podemos pensar que somos demasiado superior a tener la palabra “adicto” aplicado a nosotros o mirar hacia abajo los adictos de drogas / alcohólicos, pero nosotros mismos podríamos ser adictos a algo.
“Porque el Señor es el Espíritu; y donde está el Espíritu del Señor, allí hay libertad.”
– 2 Corintios 3:17 RVR 1960
No hemos estado adictos a algo en algún momento de nuestras vidas? Wikipedia define la adicción como algo “caracterizado por el compromiso compulsivo en los estímulos de recompensa, a pesar de las consecuencias adversas.” Piense en eso por un momento. ¿Qué considerara al estímulos de recompensa? Cuanto más lo pienso, más me doy cuenta de que casi cualquier cosa puede ser un stimili gratificante. Por lo tanto, una adicción podría ser cualquier cosa: comer un alimento en particular (Es decir, la cafeína, el azúcar), el uso de la tecnología (juegos, redes sociales, mensajes de texto, hablar, skyping), ver la televisión (deportes, películas, programas, noticias), escuchar música, leer libros, ir de compras, hacer ejercicio, viajar, o cualquier otra cosa que se hace en exceso. Por supuesto, algunas de estas cosas son beneficiosos si se hace con moderación. Y, aunque algunas de estas actividades se realizaron en exceso, podrían todavía ser inofensivo y no es peligroso para nuestra salud. Sin embargo, todavía podrían convertirse en adicciones y más importante aún podían tomar nuestro enfoque principal alejado de Dios. “Ninguno puede servir a dos señores; porque o aborrecerá al uno y amará al otro, o estimará al uno y menospreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y a las riquezas.”-Mateo 6:24 RVR 1960 ¿Estamos haciendo algo en nuestras vidas más importante que Dios? ¿Tenemos adicciones o distracciones que nos impiden de Dios?
Que siempre recordamos que Dios nunca tuvo la intención de que seamos dependentes de algo. Nuestra libertad está solamente en Cristo.
Estimado Señor Jesucristo, por favor ayúdanos a no convertirnos en adictos de las cosas de este mundo. Por favor ayúdenos a no consumirnos en nada, menos Usted. Amén.

How to Face 2018 with Boldness
As we approach 2018, we reflect on 2017. We think about pain and joy. The tears we cried and the laughter we shared with our loved ones. For many, 2017 has been difficult or tragic year. We remember the lives lost in the hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, and the mass shooting of Las Vegas. Many also lost their homes during these natural disasters and fires. We may have faced tragedies, hardships, or pain. We may have faced moments of success and happiness. We may have faced failures and disappointments. But, what will we face in 2018? For many, this question is daunting or terrifying.
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
– Hebrews 13:6 KJV
Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. – Ephesians 3:12 NLT
But, as those redeemed by the the blood of Jesus Christ, we can confidently face 2018 with boldness. We can trust God with 2018. We can place 2018 in God’s hands, knowing that He will be with us to guide us and protect us. We can give God our goals and dreams, knowing that He listens to us and answers us.
The psalmist wrote, “When I called, you answered me; you greatly emboldened me.” Psalm 138:3 NIV 2 Corinthians 3:12 NIV says,
“Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT says “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you being with us through 2017. Please continue to fill our lives with Your presence. As we enter 2018, please give us the boldness to love others as You do, to reach out to those in need, to share the gospel with others, to become more like You, and to accomplish Your plans for ours lives. Amen.

Perhaps you are asking yourself: “How does this scripture relate to my busy Christmas to-do list?” To answer this question I will direct your focus to one of the background characters of this story, the Innkeeper. Here are the lyrics to a song called Rest (The Song of the Innkeeper) by Jason Gray.

But at least they won’t be wandering
If they’re sleeping on my stable floor

Do you feel like the innkeeper? Do you feel “overbooked and overrun” this Christmas season? Do you feel overwhelmed? Matthew 11:28-30 NIV says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for coming down from heaven to earth to make the ultimate sacrifice for us on Calvary so that we might have the everlasting gift of Salvation in You. Please help us not to become so overwhelmed with things to do this Christmas that we lose sight of the meaning of Christmas. Please help us to find our rest in You this Christmas. Amen.

¿Estás Preocupado por Algo?
“Así que, no os afanéis por el día de mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá su afán. Basta a cada día su propio mal.”

Parece casi imposible que no se preocupe de nada. Hay tanto que consume nuestras mentes sobre una base diaria e incluso cada hora. Peor aún, toda esta preocupación puede afectarnos en un nivel más profundo: nos impacta emocionalmente, espiritualmente, psicológicamente, socialmente y físicamente. Esto nos hace pobres mayordomos de lo que Dios nos ha dado. ¿Cómo podemos pedir más, si no cuidamos de lo que tenemos? Si no podemos confiar en Dios en poco, sin duda tendremos un tiempo más difícil confiando en Dios con mucho. Sin embargo, la idea de estar fuera de control (cuando se trata de la mayor parte de las cosas que suceden a nuestro alrededor) puede ser increíblemente desalentador e incluso frustrante para nosotros simples humanos. Sin embargo, Dios no tenía la intención de que seia de esa manera para sus hijos. 1 Pedro 5:7 RVR 1960 dice: “echando toda vuestra ansiedad sobre él, porque él tiene cuidado de vosotros.” No tenemos que preocuparse de nada. La canción, Gorriones escrito por Jason Gray nos recuerda: “Si es capaz de sostener el mundo que Él puede sostener este momento … el gorrión sabe que Él sostene mañana” Mateo 10:29-30 RVR 1960 dice: “¿No se venden dos pajarillos por un cuarto? Con todo, ni uno de ellos cae a tierra sin vuestro Padre. Pues aun vuestros cabellos están todos contados.”
Piense en la letra de la canción, gorriones por Jason Gray:

What You Can’t Do Without This Thanksgiving?
It was a cold November morning and I was wishing the summer weather didn’t have to end so abruptly or ever for that matter. My thoughts drifted to warm days when I could go swimming or enjoy an evening outdoors without thinking about the need of a sweater. Then, reality hit me. I saw the advertisements filled with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas sales. Winter was here and the majority of people couldn’t wait for Thanksgiving. As a child, I always viewed Thanksgiving as an excuse to feast.
What is the meaning of Thanksgiving? The first Thanksgiving dates back to November 1621, when colonist in Plymouth shared a feast with Wampanoag Native Americans to celebrate their first autumn harvest. It was viewed as a time of thankfulness, acceptance, and sharing. But, today’s society paints the holiday in a different light. Perhaps, you have received some of these subliminal messages? You need to buy the most and the best quality food. It’s not Thanksgiving, without this or that— but, what if you are lacking? What if you don’t have the best dinner with all of Thanksgiving trimmings? What if you aren’t the best cook? What if your house doesn’t have the best decorations or look the best? What if you don’t have everything that you wanted and aren’t the best at what you do? What if you feel frustrated, stressed out, and burned out? What if you aren’t very excited for the holidays? What if all just seems lackluster?
Then, perhaps we’ve lost sight of the meaning of Thanksgiving? Maybe Thanksgiving should be about more than just eating a feast.
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”
– Psalm 100:4 NIV
As Christians, we always have something to be thankful for; God’s never-ending love for us and our Salvation in Christ Jesus (read John 3:16). “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” – Psalm 107:1 NIV
Thanksgiving season is a time to thank God for everything. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV
says, “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “[A]ll circumstances”?! Yes, we need to be thankful even if we don’t have what we wanted and things aren’t going the way we planned. If we focus too long on what we don’t have, we fail to see what we do have.
This reminds me of the lyrics to a song called “Thank God for Something” by Hawk Nelson.
“… If you’ve got a lot
Or a lot of nothing
Go ahead and thank God for something
You’re gonna see the good
If you’re good at looking
So go ahead and thank God for something
We have a lot or have a little
It’s really nothing new
Happiness should never be a slave to revenue…
In the wonder In the heartache
In the good times And the mistakes
No matter what I am going through
I can always say Thank you
When the blessings are in disguise
Let gratitude open my eyes
Cause I’ve just been given too much
To do anything but

Count my blessings…”
But, do we really need to “give thanks in all circumstances”?! Yes, we need to be thankful whether things are going well for us or they are not going well for us. Romans 8:28 says, “… all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Even when things don’t seem to be going well, God is at work. We need to be thankful for not only the doors that He opens for us but also the doors that He closes. We need to thank God for what He has done, for what He is doing, and what He will do. We need to not confine thanksgiving to this season, but make it a part of our daily life.
“We ought to give thanks for all fortune: if it is good, because it is good, if bad, because it works in us patience, humility and the contempt of this world and the hope of our eternal country.” –C.S. Lewis
And, in turn thanksgiving will bring the fruits of a joy in the Lord, a stronger trust in God, a deeper relationship with Christ, a greater acceptance of others (even if they are different from us), and a desire to share with others (even if it means not having the best for ourselves).
Dear Lord Jesus, Thank You for loving us so much that You were willing to pay the ultimate price of Your life on the cross for our Salvation. Thank You for giving us life and everything else You bless us with. Please help us not to get distracted by what we don’t have, but to instead be thankful every day for what You have given us. Amen.

Cuando se Enfrenta a Una Gran Pérdida
“Cercano está Jehová a los quebrantados de corazón;
Y salva a los contritos de espíritu.”

El lunes 2 de la mañana de Octubre de, 2017, nos despertamos con una de las mayores tragedias que esta nación ha enfrentado. Muchas vidas fueron perdidas. Y, muchas más personas resultaron heridas. En esa mañana desgarradora, tantas vidas cambiaron para siempre.
Como el autor de este blog, te puedo decir que yo no conoci las víctimas de esta tragedia, pero que al verlos en las noticias rompe mi corazón. Aún así, no puedo ni siquiera imaginar todo el dolor y el quebrantamiento de que muchos deben estar soportando en este tiempo. Tal vez conoces a alguien o eres alguien que se ve directamente afectada? O tal vez usted sabe o es alguien que se fue afectado por los recientes fuegos, terremotos o huracanes desastrosos? O tal vez usted o alguien que conoces acaba de perder una persona amada de alguna manera inesperada. No lo sé. Pero, cuando la calamidad golpea a nosotros, como seres humanos a menudo se quedan con muchas preguntas que nosotros, como simple humanos no pueden contestar. Pero, pase lo que pase, no estamos solos.
El salmista escribió: “Se llenó de amargura mi alma,Y en mi corazón sentía punzadas… Con todo, yo siempre estuve contigo; Me tomaste de la mano derecha. Me has guiado según tu consejo,Y después me recibirás en gloria.” – Salmos 73: 21, 23-24 RVR 1960 “Y Jehová va delante de ti; él estará contigo, no te dejará, ni te desamparará; no temas ni te intimides.”- Deuteronomio 31: 8. RVR 1960 Romanos 8: 38-39 RVR 1960 nos recuerda que nada nos puede separar del amor de Dios. “Por lo cual estoy seguro de que ni la muerte, ni la vida, ni ángeles, ni principados, ni potestades, ni lo presente, ni lo por venir, ni lo alto, ni lo profundo, ni ninguna otra cosa creada nos podrá separar del amor de Dios, que es en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro.” Si clamamos a Dios, Él oirá y acercará a nosotros. “En mi angustia invoqué a Jehová, Y clamé a mi Dios. El oyó mi voz desde su templo, Y mi clamor llegó delante de él, a sus oídos.” Salmo 18:6 RVR 1960 “Claman los justos, y Jehová oye, Y los libra de todas sus angustias. Cercano está Jehová a los quebrantados de corazón; Y salva a los contritos de espíritu.” Salmos 34:17-18 RVR 1960 Nunca estamos solos. Dios está aquí con nosotros.

Querido Señor Jesucristo, por favor estar con todas las personas que están sufriendo a causa de los disparos de masa, fuegos, terremotos, y huracanes. Por favor, consolar a todos los que sufren a causa de la pérdida insoportable. Por favor rodearlos con Tu abrazo de amor y de esperanza en Ti. Amén.
