Song Reflection: It’s Good (Love’s not safe) by Sidewalk Prophets

When I first heard this song, I immediately thought about Aslan from Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. “Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But, he’s good. He’s the King. I tell you.” – C.S. Lewis (The Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe) In this book series, Aslan represents God, our King. And, according to 1 John 4:8, “God is love.” He made the ultimate sacrifice for us, because His love for us is greater than we could ever comprehend. When I heard about the “dark clouds,” it took me to that moment in Matthew 27:14, where it says, “darkness came over the whole land” when Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for us on the cross. He could have left, but He chose to stay and carry the burdens of all of our sins. He set the ultimate example of love. “… Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”-Romans 5:6-8 He was willing to “lose (His life) to win” our salvation. He loved us in our complete and utter depravity. He saw us as His friends. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13. Furthermore, He commands us to love as He loved. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”-John 15:12 Our love for God and others needs to be so strong that we are willing to go through the storm (hurricane) for it. As the song goes, love is not safe or easy, but it’s good. “Love might let us fall down,” but it’s good because we get up stronger. “Love might feel unkind,” when our loved ones hurt us, but it’s good because it teaches us to love unconditionally. “Love will break you,” but it’s good because God picks up the broken pieces and puts us back together into more beautiful forms than we originally were. Again “Love is good,” and “Anything good in life’s Gonna take a sacrifice.”
