True Worship?

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”   

– John 4:23-24 NIV

 This scripture tells us that God seeks for us to worship Him in “Spirit and Truth.” What does that mean?

In Spirit: Is our spirit is completely submitted and surrendered to the Holy Spirit?

To worship in spirit, we must surrender our thoughts/knowledge, feelings/emotions, and desires/will to the Holy Spirit.

“Spiritual affections, as shown in fervent prayers, supplications, and thanksgivings, form the worship of an upright heart, in which God delights and is glorified.” (Matthew Henry)

In Truth: How do we worship in truth? We must come to God just as we are. We must come without false pretensions. We don’t have to present ourselves as more than we really are. God sees us as we are. We must focus our attention on Him.

“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”  

  -Luke 18:10-14 NIV

God wants us to come before Him just the way we are. We don’t need to prove anything to Him or tell Him how good we have been. We don’t need to make ourselves perfect before coming to Him. We don’t need to pretend to be more righteous than we really are. He sees us just as we are. He sees our hearts, our intentions, and our motives. Like the Pharisee, we might be able to fool other people into believing we are the best “worshippers.” But, real worship is something between you and God. Real worship has nothing to do with the other people. Real worship is presenting ourselves with our flaws and insufficiencies to God, humbling our hearts before God, surrendering our entire beings and human wills to the Holy Spirit, and focusing our attention on adoring our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dear Lord Jesus, please help us to worship God in Spirit and Truth. Amen.

¿Cuál es la Mejor Temporada?

Hay un tiempo y una época para todo. No podemos correr a través de las etapas de nuestras vida. Del mismo modo que no podemos vivir en el pasado, no podemos vivir en el futuro. Esto es particularmente difícil de decir, porque he aprendido que algunas personas están más orientadas al pasado, mientras que otros son más orientados al futuro. Puedo relacionar más a este último. Como persona más  orientado al futuro, te puedo decir que es difícil no vivir pensando en el futuro. Pero, yo creo que es importante para nosotros a tomar una respiración profunda y tomar todo en una base diaria. Tenemos que vivir en el presente. Historiadora y escritora estadounidense, Alice Morse Earle, escribio, “El reloj está en marcha. Aprovecha al máximo hoy. El tiempo no espera a ningún hombre. Ayer es historia. El mañana es un misterio. Hoy es un regalo. Es por eso que se llama el presente.” En verdad, todo lo que tenemos es hoy en día. Y, por eso es importante que sepamos dónde estamos en los ojos de Dios. Hoy en día, lo más importante es saber que vamos a pasar la eternidad en el cielo con Jesucristo. “Y esta es la vida eterna: que te conozcan a ti, el único Dios verdadero, y a Jesucristo, a quien has enviado.” Juan 17: 3 RVR 1960 Si no está seguro de su salvación en Cristo Jesús, ahora es el momento de cambiar eso [lea Romanos 3:23, Juan 5:24 y Romanos 10: 9]. “Porque dice: En tiempo aceptable te he oído, Y en día de salvación te he socorrido. m He aquí ahora el tiempo aceptable; he aquí ahora el día de salvación.” -2 Corintios 6: 2 RVR 1960. No sabemos lo que pasara mañana. Pero, como Cristianos, podemos confiar en que todo está en los manos de Dios. Mateo 10: 29-31 RVR 1960 dice: “¿No se venden dos pajarillos por un cuarto? Con todo, ni uno de ellos cae a tierra sin vuestro Padre. Pues aun vuestros cabellos están todos contados. Así que, no temáis; más valéis vosotros que muchos pajarillos.” Como hijos de Dios, podemos confiar nuestro futuro en Él. Mirad las aves del cielo, que no siembran, ni siegan, ni recogen en graneros; y vuestro Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valéis vosotros mucho más que ellas? ¿Y quién de vosotros podrá, por mucho que se afane, añadir a su estatura un codo?” Mateo 6: 26-27 RVR 1960. Lo tanto, si estamos gastando nuestro tiempo a preocuparse por el futuro, entonces no podemos realmente disfrutar del presente en su plenitud. Por otra parte, en la sociedad actual, también hay un gran enfoque en la tecnología. Y, la tecnología puede hacer muchas cosas beneficiosas. Sin embargo, tenemos que tener cuidado de no llegar a ser tan distraído por ella, que no somos capaces de ver y experimentar toda la belleza que Dios tiene para nosotros, hoy. Hoy en día, tenemos que apreciar no sólo muchas bendiciones de Dios en nuestras vidas (es decir. La salud, las personas, la naturaleza, la música, etc.), sino también las lecciones que Dios tiene para nosotros hoy en día. La sociedad puede decirle, que su vida necesita para adaptarse a una plantilla y hay que hacer las cosas cuando todos los demás están haciendo. Pero, ¿quiénes son ellos para definir nuestros escenarios y experiencias de vida? Alinear nuestras vidas con los planes de Dios es lo que realmente tenemos que hacer para evitar perderse en todo lo que Él tiene para nosotros. Si nos apresuramos hacia la  mañana, es posible que se pierda las lecciones que necesitamos saber para mañana. “Hoy en día es un regalo.” Podríamos perder las alegrías y los regalos sencillos que Dios nos ha dado para hoy. “Hay una época para todo.” Sólo tenemos que confiar en Dios, sabiendo que si hay algo que no está en nuestras vidas en este momento, entonces no es su temporada. Confiamos nuestras vidas a Dios todos los días, por la búsqueda de su voluntad y paciencia de tomar nuestra vida un día a la vez.

“Todo lo hizo hermoso en su tiempo”

Ahora es la mejor época del año!

Estimado Señor Jesucristo, por favor abre nuestros ojos para ver todas las alegrías y bendiciones que Tu tienes para nosotros hoy, en este momento. Por favor ayúdenos a no estar tan atrapados en nuestros pasados o futuros que no somos capaces de disfrutar del regalo del presente. Amén.

 

Is Something Missing?

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” 

– Colossians 4:2 NIV

Do you feel like your life is missing something? Are you happy? Do you feel satisfied? Or, are you looking for something? Do you feel anxious?

In today’s society, it’s easy to become caught up in the pursuit of happiness. We live in a world of instant gratification. Entertainment is available at the touch of a button or at the command of Siri. Fast food is available within minutes. And, if happiness is still not obtained, we might find ourselves turning our eyes to human relationships. But, are possessions, food, new friends or a significant other really the answer to this dilemma? Or are they just a futile attempt to fill any empty space?

Furthermore, with world news at the tips of our fingers, it is also easy to become anxious about all of the negative things happening in the world around us.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  -Philippians 4:4-7 NIV

Philippians 4:4-7 provides the answer to this dilemma. First, it reminds us that our joy is found in the Lord. If we look anywhere else, we will turn up empty and dissatisfied. No physical possessions, foods, or relationships can fill the God shaped hole within us. This scripture also reminds us not to allow the situations around us to make us anxious, but instead pray. But, how do we pray? “Our prayers must express gratitude. It is good to be watchful and to pray, but if our prayers are only lists of requests in which we pray for favors, our approach is wrong. We have so much to be thankful for that we won’t have much time for other topics once we start giving thanks.” ((Solly Ozrovech, A Season of Hope, p. June 14) And, thankfulness gives us  confidence to present our request to God because it reminds us of what He has already done for us. Lastly, this scripture reminds us that we can only find the peace we desperately need in an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.  

Dear Lord Jesus, please help us to devote ourselves to prayer so that we can develop a closer relationship with You. Amen.

¿Cómo se dice la Palabra “Perdonar” en Lenguaje de Signos Americano?

Escribí este blog en Inglés hace un año, cuando mi iglesia estaba teniendo Vacaciones Escuela Bíblica:

Los niños estaban aprendiendo una canción, con lenguaje de señas signos Americanos (ASL), que menciona la palabra “perdonar.” Recordé aprendiendo esta palabra en el pasado. Siempre he pensado que la palabra, “perdonar” era muy significativa en lenguaje de señas Americano.

Para hacer el signo de la palabra “perdonar” debe: “Mantener la mano izquierda delante de usted, con la palma hacia arriba con los dedos apuntando hacia afuera. Mantenga la mano derecha con la palma hacia abajo y los dedos de pincel a través de la mano izquierda, a partir de la palma y dedos moviéndose hacia. Repita el movimiento varias veces.”(‘Diccionario de ASL signos religiosos.’) El movimiento de hecho me recuerda a algo que se limpió o borro. Y, eso es exactamente lo que hace Dios. Se enjuga (expunges) todo nuestros pecados para siempre.

“Yo, yo soy el que borro tus rebeliones por amor de mí mismo, y no me acordaré de tus pecados.”

When You Feel Alone?

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” 

 -Matthew 28:19-20

This week, we had Vacation Bible School at my church. Matthew 28: 20 was one of the memory verses for the children. In this verse, Jesus promises us as His followers that He is always with us and will always be with us. Throughout the Bible we are reminded that we are not alone. The following are a few verses to remember, when we feel alone: 

  • “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

         -Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV

  • “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

        -Psalm 23:4 NIV

  • “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.  I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”  

        -John 14:16-18

God promises us that He is always with us and that nothing can separate us from His love.  Romans 8:38-39 NIV says, “ For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” If we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and we are His followers, we can count on never being alone because Jesus will always be with us and He never breaks His promises.   

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

-Hebrews 13:8 NIV

 Dear Lord Jesus, thank for all of Your beautiful promises. Thank you for the hope we have in You. And, thank you for the assurance that we are never alone, because You are always  with us. Amen.

¿Cómo ser Ambicioso sin Caer en una Trampa?

 “Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, y tome su cruz, y sígame. Porque todo el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; y todo el que pierda su vida por causa de mí, la hallará. Porque ¿qué aprovechará al hombre, si ganare todo el mundo, y perdiere su alma? ¿O qué recompensa dará el hombre por su alma?”

¿Qué significa negarse a sí mismo? Creo que negarse a sí mismo significa estar dispuesto a renunciar a sus deseos y ambiciones de la vida. ¿Cuáles son las ambiciones que no son buenos? 1 Tesalonicenses 4: 9-11 NVI dice: “Pero acerca del amor fraternal no tenéis necesidad de que os escriba, porque vosotros mismos habéis aprendido de Dios que os améis unos a otros… Pero os rogamos, hermanos, que abundéis en ello más y más; y que procuréis tener tranquilidad…” Esta es una imagen muy diferente de la ambición de la que el mundo nos pinta. El ambición del mundo es persiguer agresivamente las riquezas, el poder, y el reconocimiento. El mundo casi se justifica persiguiendo ambiciones terrenales sin descanso: a no detenerse hasta que tenga el mejor trabajo, la mejor casa, el mejor coche, lo mejor de todo, y toda la fama y la admiración de los que nos rodean. Sin embargo, Dios no tenía la intención de que nuestras vidas sean de esa manera. Dios nos dio dones y talentos para darle gloria por complacer a Él y servir a los demás. 2 Corintios 5: 9 NVI nos dice: “Por tanto procuramos también, o ausentes o presentes, serle agradables.” Dios nos dio la pasión para utilizar nuestros talentos para su gloria y no sólo para nuestro propio beneficio . Por supuesto que tenemos que trabajar para proveer para nosotros y nuestras familias, pero él no quiere que seamos tan atrapados en nuestros talentos y nuestras capacidades, que no somos capaces de recordar de dónde vienen nuestros bendiciones. Usar el ambicion para bien es como caminar sobre una cuerda floja. Tenemos que ser ambiciosos, pero no tan ambicioso que nuestros objetivos, puestos de trabajo, logros, y la fama se vuelvan más importantes para nosotros que servir a Dios y a los demás. Sin embargo, entendemos que a veces los seres humanos caen en la trampa de utilizar sus dones y talentos para obtener el reconocimiento, aprobación y / o atención de los demás. Y en estos casos, si los demás dejan de darnos esa atención, terminamos con la sensación de vacío, poco apreciados, insatisfecho, inseguros, y / o enojados. Sin embargo, nunca deberíamos haber estado dependiendo de la aprobación de otras personas en el primer lugar (en este caso, estábamos equivocados en buscar la aprobación humana sobre la aprobación de Dios).

“Pues, ¿busco ahora el favor de los hombres, o el de Dios? ¿O trato de agradar a los hombres? Pues si todavía agradara a los hombres, no sería siervo de Cristo.”  

– Gálatas 1:10  RVR 1960

Por otra parte, Filipenses 2: 3 NVI  nos dice “Nada hagáis por contienda o por vanagloria; antes bien con humildad, estimando cada uno a los demás como superiores a él mismo;” Hay que esforzarse por utilizar nuestro trabajo y ministerios como una oportunidad para dar gloria a Dios y mejorar el bienestar de las vidas de otros.

Tu luz brillará cuando todo lo demás desvanece

nunca se terminara

Tu gloria va más allá de toda la fama”

Estimado Señor Jesucristo, por favor nos ayude a usar sus dones y talentos para llevar usted gloria. Por favor ayúdenos a no utilizar sus regalos exclusivamente para recibir el dinero, reconocimiento, alabanza y aprobación de los demás. Ayúdanos a recordar, que Usted nos dio dones y talentos para servirle, y no sólo para nuestro propio beneficio únicas. Amén.

When You Feel Broken?

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

 -Psalm 147:3 NIV

Have you ever felt too broken or like you fell down too many times? Have you felt too messed up for God? In Isaiah 57:18-19, the Lord says that He will heal the Israelites, despite their ways.  “I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners,  creating praise on their lips. Peace, peace, to those far and near,” says the Lord. “And I will heal them.” Isaiah 57:18-19 Proverbs 24:16 says, “for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.” Perhaps, you feel like the toils and pains of this world have been too heavy to bear alone. Just remember, you are not alone. God has not abandoned you. Romans 8 reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 8:38-39 NIV  But, perhaps you feel like someone else has hurt you or broken you to the point, where you can no longer be repaired? Perhaps, this person has hurt you so much, that you feel that you cannot forgive them? And, you may feel that they don’t deserve your forgiveness. Perhaps, you have chosen to punish them by not forgiving them. Unfortunately, by not forgiving them you are allowing them to continually hurt you in perpetum. By not forgiving them, you are keeping yourself from the healing process. Multiple times in the Bible, we are instructed to forgive others, just as God forgave us (Read: Colossians 3:13, Matthew 6:14-15, Ephesians 4:31-32, Mark 11:25). Even if you can no longer speak to the person, who harmed you, you can still forgive them. Today, I encourage you to let go of the hurts of pasts and press forward knowing that the God of forgiveness is there to comfort you, heal you, mend you, and give you peace. God’s word tells us that, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” -Psalm 34:18 The song called Mended (below), by Matthew West, describes how God sees us, even when we see ourselves as too wounded, broken, or too damaged to be repaired.

Look in the mirror, but you find someone you never thought you’d be

¿Qué Podría estar Impidiéndole a Obtener la Libertad?

“Oísteis que fue dicho: Ojo por ojo, y diente por diente. Pero yo os digo: No resistáis al que es malo; antes, a cualquiera que te hiera en la mejilla derecha, vuélvele también la otra; y al que quiera ponerte a pleito y quitarte la túnica, déjale también la capa; y a cualquiera que te obligue a llevar carga por una milla, ve con él dos.”

 -Mateo 5:38-41 RVR 1960

¿Cuándo fue la última vez que se herido por alguien? Fue daño intencional o no? ¿Todavía culpas esa persona? En virtud de la ley del Antiguo Testamento, la gente tenía que pagar por cada daño que hicieron, especialmente si fue intencional.

 “Mas si hubiere muerte, entonces pagarás vida por vida, ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie, quemadura por quemadura, herida por herida, golpe por golpe.”  -Éxodo 21:23-25 RVR 1960

 Éxodo 21: 23-25 nos recuerda el énfasis en la justicia  en el Antiguo Testamento. Pero, cuando Cristo vino, muchas cosas cambiaron. El vino a pagar la penalidad por todos los delitos que se han hecho. Cuando Jesús vino, la justicia fue sustituido por piedad. La amargura fue reemplazado con alegría. Servidumbre fue sustituida por la libertad. Pero no podemos encontrar la libertad si no nos liberamos de la amargura que nos encadena. Tenemos que perdonar a esa persona, sin importar si su daño fue intencional o no. “Se han dicho que la amargura es una píldora que se tiene que tragar, con la esperanza de que alguien más va a morir.” (Nortker, 3-Minute Devotionals For Women, p.333)  Pero, la realidad es que nosotros somos los a quien serán destruidos por la amargura. Mientras que aquellos, que nos hicieron daño, seguirán viviendo feliz y libre del dolor que infligieron a nosotros. Pero, la clemencia de Jesucristo cambio todo.

Jesucristo dio el mejor ejemplo de piedad. Al sacrificar su vida en la cruz por nosotros y expiar nuestros pecados, él pintó la imagen más hermosa de la misericordia que existe. En la cruz, “…. Jesús decía: Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen…” – Lucas 23:34 RVR 1960 Tenemos que perdonar a esa persona, sin importar si su daño no fue intencional o no. Sin embargo, Jesucristo fue un paso más allá. Él nos amo y nos ama. Amaba a nosotros, a los pecadores, a quien sus pecados lo clavaron en la cruz. “Pero yo os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos, bendecid a los que os maldicen, haced bien a los que os aborrecen, y orad por los que os ultrajan y os persiguen;” – Mateo 5:44 RVR 1960 El punto es que piedad en forma de perdón y el amor lo cambia todo. Nos da la libertad del dolor de nuestros enemigos / enemigos / abusadores / acusadores infligidos a nosotros. Jesús tenía la intención de que nosotros vivirán libres de resentimiento amargura. Nuestra libertad está en la misericordia. Nos libera de la amargura y el odio. Nos da una nueva capacidad a amar a otros. Amén.

¿Fruta Buena?

“Mas el fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fe, mansedumbre, templanza; contra tales cosas no hay ley.”

Gálatas 5: 22-23 RVR 1960

“Por un corto tiempo cada otoño, huertos de manzanas están llenos de fruta dulce, maduro listo para ser disfrutad. El resto del año, sin embargo, los árboles pasan el tiempo cada vez mayor, teniendo el alimento del sol, absorbiendo agua a través de sus raíces, y esperando la llegada de la fruta crecida y madura. Recogidos demasiado pronto, las manzanas son amargas; demasiada tarde y son demasiada madura y blanda.” (Nortker, 3-Minute Devotionals For Women, p. 300) Piensa en la analogía aquí. La Biblia habla mucho de la fruta; no sólo de los frutos del Espíritu, sino también de los frutos de compartir el Evangelio e instruir a otros en la fe. La única manera de ser buenos y dar buen fruto, es mantener la mirada centrada en Dios. Si perdemos nuestro enfoque en Él, dejamos de ser buenos. Debemos ser fieles y permanecer en Cristo. Él ya nos ha redimido por la salvación, sino que debemos permanecer en él. En Juan 15: 3-5 RVR 1960, Jesucristo dijo: “Ya vosotros estáis limpios por la palabra que os he hablado. Permaneced en mí, y yo en vosotros. Como el pámpano no puede llevar fruto por sí mismo, si no permanece en la vid, así tampoco vosotros, si no permanecéis en mí.Yo soy la vid, vosotros los pámpanos; el que permanece en mí, y yo en él, éste lleva mucho fruto; porque separados de mí nada podéis hacer.” Cuando no podemos ver buenos frutos en nuestras vidas o en las vidas de aquellos a quien nos rodean, tenemos que ser pacientes. Se necesita tiempo para disfrutar de la luz del Padre, recibir el alimento de su Palabra, y por el trabajo del Espíritu Santo en nosotros. Pero, si mantenemos nuestros raízes en Jesucristo, nos dará fruto. Tal vez no ahora o mañana, pero cuando sea el momento adecuado.“Todo tiene su tiempo, y todo lo que se quiere debajo del cielo tiene su hora. Tiempo de nacer, y tiempo de morir; tiempo de plantar, y tiempo de arrancar lo plantado;”-Eclesiastés 3: 1-2 RVR 1960 Sólo tenemos que confiar en Dios, sin dejar de ser pacientes y perseverantes en la fe . How to Pray When Life Doesn’t Make Sense? (Part 2)

If we choose and pray to live in God’s will, we must understand that sometimes God allows us to struggle and suffer not only to change us, but also to prepare us for His future plans.  In Matthew 26: 36-42 (Refer to Part 1 of How to Pray When Life Doesn’t Make Sense [Part 1]), Jesus went with his disciples to the Gethsemane to pray. Jesus knew it was God’s will for Him to lay down His life to pay the debt for our sins. Jesus “… prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”  -Matthew 26:39 NIV When Jesus prayed this prayer, He awaited the greatest pain and suffering to ever exists, the crucifixion (the ultimate sacrifice for humankind). Twice, Jesus prayed for God’s will to be done and not His own will. In the same way, we are to pray. The lyrics to a song sang by Hillary Scott are as follows: “I’m so confused I know I heard you loud and clear/ So, I followed through/ Somehow I ended up here I don’t wanna think/ I may never understand/ That my broken heart is a part of your plan/ When I try to pray/ All I’ve got is hurt and these four words/ Thy will be done…” When we pray for God’s will, we must have the right attitude.  “We could pray this prayer in an attitude of defeat. You don’t say it because you want to but because God is stronger than you. You can also say it with bitter resentment and in smoldering rage towards God. However, God wants us to pray it in complete love and trust because we know God only has our best interests at heart…. Before we can be in perfect harmony with God’s will…, we must be tuned to His perfect will in loving submission.” ((Solly Ozrovech, A Season of Hope, p. May 14)

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.  Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” -Romans 5:1-5 NIV 

Romans 5:1-5 reminds us that there is purpose in suffering. Suffering not only gives us more compassionate hearts for those around us, but teaches us to trust God more and remind us of the hope of eternal life we have in Jesus Christ. Just as God allows the caterpillar struggle on it’s own to emerge from the cocoon a butterfly, He also allows us to endure hardships to emerge the people, that He predestined us to become.

“People often draw up their own agenda for Jesus and then expect nothing more from Him. His work extends far beyond what any one of us could think or dream of.” -season of Hope  But, we need to be willing to allow God to take away our simple plans and supplant His divine plans, even if means sacrificing our dreams and/or taking a more difficult path.

Here are more of the lyrics to Thy will sang by Hillary Scott: “I know you’re good/ But this don’t feel good right now/ And I know you think/ Of things I could never think about/ It’s hard to count it all joy/ Distracted by the noise/ Just trying to make sense/Of all your promises/ Sometimes I gotta stop/ Remember that you’re God/ And I am not/ So/ Thy will be done… I know you see me/ I know you hear me, Lord/ Your plans are for me/ Goodness you have in store..Like a child on my knees all that comes to me is/ Thy will be done…”

Dear Lord Jesus, please give us hearts that are always willing to submit to Your will. Amen.
